Today is Halloween and a day to have fun and dress up. If you are a tutor then today is a great day to infuse your lessons with a Halloween theme. For example, if you are tutoring math you can use bats, pumpkins and other Halloween themed objects to teach your students.
One activity that you can do with your reading students is to read Halloween themed stories. Today is the perfect day to explore stories like the Headless Horseman, the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and other Halloween favorites. Since many Halloween stories are kid favorites, these stories are great for teaching reading comprehension.
If you are tutoring math students today then counting activities can use Halloween candy pieces. For example, you can count using candy corns or chocolate coins. You can also teach shapes with Halloween candies. You may even want to try a Halloween art project using shape. For example, you can show your students how basic shapes are combined to make Halloween icons like pumpkins and witches.
If you are tutoring older students who are working with subjects that are not readily integrateable with Halloween themed activities, you can simply enhance your learning activities with Halloween props. For example, you can dress up or use a pumpkin shaped timer. Just have fun and keep today’s tutoring sessions highly “spirited.”
