Language. It is something that makes humans seemingly unique in the animal kingdom. It is something that is both innate and learned.
As children language is easy to learn. In fact, during the first three years of life children have the ability to develop proficiencies in multiple languages at a rate that adults just cannot match. This is why it is a good idea to start kids off with language courses early on.
While learning a second language is easier to do when you are younger, most of us do not take lessons until we are in high school. At this stage students can choose between a few basic languages such as Spanish, German and French. While these languages are beneficial to learn, they do not represent all of the possible languages that are used in the business world.
As business professionals it is a good idea to pick up one or two languages to enhance your ability to communicate effectively with your clients. The languages that you select to learn need to reflect who you do business with, such as Spanish, Japanese, or Korean.
Regardless of what you do for a living, it can be fun and mentally stimulating to learn a second or third language as an adult. You can select a language that will help you on a planned vacation, such as Mandarin, or if can be a language that will help you to better understand your religious background, such as Hebrew. What is great about modern langauge courses is that they can be taken in a physical classroom or online.
