picking a tutor
Right now tutoring businesses are fighting for your business. If you or your child is in need of tutoring assistance then now is the time to work with a tutor. Many of the learning centers and tutoring services across the country are experiencing financial problems, just like the rest of us. It is because of this that you can get great deals on tutoring.
To get the best deals possible you will want to contact several tutoring businesses to see what deals they can offer you. If there is a particular company that you would like to work with you can tell them that you found a cheaper price with another tutor, but you would be willing to give them your business if they will match or beat the price.
Another way to get a great deal is to buy a block of tutoring services. Buying in bulk nearly always saves you money. You can expect to save between five and 15 percent off of the purchase prices of indivudal hour pricing or session purchases.
Do you have a money saving tip for tutoring services? Or, do you offer tutoring services and have a special going on right now? Let us know your answers.

Selecting the right tutoring service to work with is critical to your success. Not only does finding the right tutor help you to meet your academic goals quicker, but it also helps you to get more from your investment. However, it is not always easy to find a tutor that compliments your learning style and needs.
The first step in finding the right tutor is to examine what local tutoring centers have to offer. These learning centers are great in that they screen tutors for you and they make sure that clients are matched with tutors that have the credentials and skills required to help you achieve your learning goals. Unfortunately, just because of a tutor is qualified doesn’t mean that you will get along with them. If your personalities clash or if you don’t respond to their teaching methodologies your progress can be stalled or even stopped dead in its tracks.
Your second step is to look for local tutors that have been recommended by people that you know. You can get recommendations from friends, family members, your school, your counselor or other professionals that you work with. Referrals are great in that they help you to narrow down your options. However, when you get a referral ask the person referring the tutor why they liked the tutor and if there is anything about the tutor that they don’t like. You can use this information to determine if you want to contact the tutor for an interview or not.

Last week we talked about questions you need to ask potential tutors to determine if they are right for you. This week I’d like to continue this discussion and talk about a few more questions that you can ask a potential tutor or tutoring service. These questions will help you to narrow down your tutoring options.
Question No. 1: Where do you offer your tutoring services?
This question is designed to determine if you have to go to your tutor or if they will come to you. Tutors that work in a tutoring center, from their home or from an office have some advantages. For example, they have a work station that is set up for easy learning and they have access to all of their tutoring supplies. However, for many students the tutor’s willingness to come to them is very important, especially for students that have disabilities that make mobility or new environments difficult to handle.
Question No. 2: How much do you charge?
This is another important question to ask a potential tutor or tutoring service. This question needs to be asked so you can determine if you can afford the tutor’s services. Tutoring services can range anywhere from $20 an hour to over $100 an hour, depending on the subject and the tutor. Travel charges may also be assessed.
Question No. 3: Do you offer test prep services?
If you are getting ready to take a big test, such as the SATs or the ACTs, then this is an important question to ask. Usually you will need to use a test prep specialist if you want a tutor to help you prepare for one of these tests.

If you are looking for a tutoring service then you need to evaluate all of your options before selecting one. There are many questions that you can ask a potential tutor to determine if they are right for you. This blog entry will present these questions.
Question No. 1: What subjects do you tutor?
This question is one of the most important questions to ask. It will determine if the tutor will be able to help you in the subject that you are interested in. It will also help you to gage if they are a general tutor or a subject specific tutor.
Questions No. 2: When are you available?
This question will help you to determine if the tutor’s schedule will work with your schedule. Obvious, for most students, tutoring services are going to either need to be scheduled after school or on the weekends. However, in-school tutoring sessions can also be worked out with your school, so don’t rule this out.
Question No. 3: What experience do you have?
This question will help you to determine how qualified the tutor is to tutor you in your chosen subject(s). This question can also be modified to determine their experience in specific skills such as what experience do you have in calculus or what experience do you have working with students who are dyslexic?
