Tutoring Services Writing Exercises

Fun and Effective Writing Activities for Tutoring Services

If you offer professional tutoring services then you need to always be on the look out for ways to help your students to develop their academic skills. One of my favorite skill development exercises is the writing journal. Journals can be kept on a number of subjects from English to Social Studies. Journaling exercises also range in types from timed writings to daily entries.

Timed writings are great for home tutoring sessions in a variety of subjects. They can be used to develop English language or foreign language skills, as well as to develop information recall from previous tutoring sessions. When structuring your timed writing you will want to set the time limit to between five and fifteen minutes and provide your students with a topic. Your topic selection can be specific, such as “what sparked World War II?” Your topic selection can also be general, such as “write about your summer vacation.”

If you specialize in a specific topic, such as Spanish tutoring, then journaling exercises will need to focus on specific skills, pieces of information or topics. For example, one journaling exercise that is appropriate for Spanish tutoring sessions is to have the student write an entry using the vocabulary words that you are focusing on that week. You can also have the students write on cultural topics related to the foreign language being studied. These exercises are intended to provide students with opportunities to utilize the language skills that they are learning and to deepen their understanding of the cultures behind the language.

Do you have a recommendation for a learning exercise or journaling topic? Post your responses below.

As I have mentioned several times in this blog, everyone leans differently. Some people are visual learners, others are auditory learners, and yet others learn best by completing the activity themselves (kinesthethic learners). It is this third group of learners that I want to talk about in this installment of the Tutoring Services blog.

Active learners, or learners who learn by doing, can have a difficult time in school because most of the material is presented in either an auditory or visual format. If you have a difficult time keeping up with your classmates, then try working with a private tutoring service to develop learning activities to help you learn math, science and reading concepts. You will be surprised at how quickly you will pick up these concepts once the material is formatted to fit your learning style.

Online tutoring services are another great option. If you want to work with an online tutor then you will want to look for a service that offers interactive software. Online tutorials that walk you through the steps and then allows you to complete the project with guidance is a great option for you if you learn best by doing an activity. When searching for an online tutoring keep in mind that not all online tutors offer the same tutoring services or options. Try to find one that will be able to meet your learning needs.

Do you have a tutoring service that can help kids or adults who learn by doing? If so, introduce yourself below and tell people how they can reach you. This is a great opportunity to promote your business for free.
