Tutoring services are not cheap. They can cost $50 or more dollars per hour. Since your tutor is your employee it is important to evaluate their performance on a periodic basis. There are several areas of performance that you will want to evaluate.
The first area is the improvement that your child or you have made in your subject. Improvements can be measured by looking at grades, by looking at study habits or by looking at your frustration level. If measurable improvements have not been made after three months, then it may be time to get a new tutor or to at least reassess the tutoring strategy that is in place.
The next area is the tutor’s attitude. When an employer evaluates their employees they often look at their attitude at work. Are they pleasant to work with, are they always negative or are they professional? All of these questions need to be answered. If your tutor is always negative or if they seem to engage in unprofessional behaviors then it may be time to fire your tutor and look for a new one.
The final area that you will want to evaluate your private tutoring service in is their dedication to professional development. Since they are in charge of helping you to improve your performance in a specific topic it is important that they continue their professional education. Does your tutor take classes or seminars at least once a year to improve their knowledge of the subject that they teach or to improve their knowledge of teaching methodologies.
