This is the time of year when a lot of people are looking to make a little extra money. The holiday season is over, but the holiday bills keep coming in. To make things worse tax bills are also coming due soon. If you have a background in education, or if you are an expert in one or more subjects, then you can pick up extra income by starting a tutoring business.
To start a tutoring business you need to be able to prove to parents or potential students that you have the qualifications to be a tutor in the subjects that you have selected. To prove this you will need your college transcripts, any certifications that you have, and a teaching license, if you have one. A recent resume is also a great marketing tool that you can use to attract new clients.
If you don’t want to work for yourself, then you can contact a local tutoring service or an online tutoring service to see if they are looking for any help. Reading through your local want ads can also generate leads for possible tutoring jobs that are available in your area. If you are still in college, or if you have recently graduated from college, then the college student services office can be a great place to contact to see if any college students are looking for a peer tutor.
Tutoring businesses are relatively easy to start if you have the right qualifications. However, before starting a private tutoring business, you need to make sure this is the type of business that you are interested in.

When running a tutoring business it is important that you be able to show your students and/or their parents, what progress is being made. An effective way to do this is via performance measures.
