Effective Schedules for One to One Tutoring Sessions
Creating an Effective Tutoring Schedule

Over the last few months we have talked about a lot of different tutoring topics and tips. Today I’d like to talk about how to set up an effective tutoring schedule. This topic is one that a lot of parents have to struggle with as they try to balance school, after school activities and work responsibilities.

The first thing that you need to look at when setting up a tutoring schedule for your child is what conflicting activities you have already scheduled. You will need to look at when they are at school, when you are at work, when people are available to drive the student to their tutoring session and when your kids have other after school activities planned. Knowing the schedules for these things will provide you with windows of opportunity for tutoring sessions.

When you look for a window of time to schedule a tutoring session it is important to keep in mind when your child is in a learning mode. This will further narrow down when a tutoring session can be scheduled. The learning mode is on during school and for the hour or two after school. It is not a good idea to schedule a tutoring session late at night, early in the morning or during times when the child may be hungry.

As you can see, it is not easy to find an ideal time to schedule a tutoring session. However, if your child is falling behind and needs tutoring to keep up with their classmates then talk with their teachers or the school’s counselor to see if in-school tutoring sessions can be set up. These sessions can include peer tutors, student aid tutoring or special professional tutoring sessions sponsored by the school district.

Whether you are interested in home tutoring, online tutoring or one-to-one tutoring, it is important to keep in mind when your child will be primed for learning.
