If I have learned anything as my three decades of being a student and educator, is that one size of education does not fit all. In fact, it is the notion of forcing a single style of education on all students that is causing our country to fall behind in the national rankings for math and science. The reason for this is because everyone learns differently, and everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. If these differences are not taken into consideration when developing an education program, the student is not going to get the most from that program.
Now I understand that it is impractical to develop a unique public education for millions of students, however, this does not erase the need for unique education programs. However, it does shift the responsibility from the schools to the parents and students. If parents were given the information needed to help supplement their kids’ education with extra stimuli and learning opportunities, then I feel that American students would be able to excel well beyond their compatriots from other countries.
